Early in my career, I told my boss that my goal was to work myself out of a job. Of course, I got quite a slap on the hand for it. Saying such a thing implied that I didn’t want my job. I conceded to never say that aloud again but continued to conduct myself with that in mind. I was a maverick, a change agent, a firefighter, and I thrived in positions where transformation was needed to sustain and grow an organization. Once that transformation was complete, I could hand over ongoing maintenance and performance to someone adept at such things.
Like with my professional life, I’m always looking to learn and grow. Since leaving University with a BA in [theoretical] math and an MBA, I’ve learned to ski, snowboard, scuba dive and golf, along with some basic handyman skills to keep my 1904 house running smoothly. I’ve developed a love of CrossFit and a taste for good gin and bourbon along the way. Whether I’m out on my motorcycle, watching my dog frolic in snow/pool/yard or relaxing at home, I know that my next adventure isn’t too far away.
